WHAT MIXMAG HAD TO SAY ABOUT THIS MONTH'S D.M.C. MIXES:
To a lot of people June 1988 will just be a normal run-of-the-mill month, but to us here at DMC, it's something a little more special. Not only have we moved into brand new offices complete with every facility imaginable, but we've also revamped the record sleeves (At last! - Ed), and to a certain extent, even the magazine has taken on a new look. We hope you like the new image, but more importantly, we hope you all find the mixes to be another strong all-round set. DMC might have undertook a fresh appearance, but just to prove that some things never change our leading mix this month is an update of the one which launched us back in April 1983. Now, over 5 years later, with the aid of modern technology and the addition of some new tracks, Alan Coulthard has done it again! So, when Jackson fever hits Britain at the end of this month, as he arrives for his concert dates, we're sure you'll get some mileage out of the Michael Jackson Megamix (Part 2) - 'Five Years On'. CBS approached us a month or so ago with an album they wanted us to support. So once we'd agreed to run our special promotion nights in clubs up and down the country, we then commissioned the ballad blending genius of Bizzie Bee to create a mix using cuts from the 'Nite Flite' LP. By adding his own drum and percussion patterns to give the mix a 'backbone', Brian manages to accomplish the impossible - a smooth running mix. He even ended up sleeping in the DMC studio for 3 nights in order to finish it, but the result is phenominal. Watch out for the incredible merger between Randy Crawford and Champaign where the sample from 'Almaz' actually changes into the key of 'How About Us'. The ultimate end of the night stuff! Acid house is increasingly becoming a more accepted form of dance music. Not only has it captured the cred dancefloors of Northern England and Scotland, but it has also moved South entrancing London and now even the more avante-garde venues in Europe have latched onto it. The Mixbusters have also found it to work with the crowds they've performed to at their recent live gigs, so they set about concocting 5 minutes of madness and mayhem using some of the best cuts of that particular musical genre flanging basslines and sparse beats. This is the House that Acid built - Burn it up! Recently a certain band, who have been making records for twenty years, have been doing prolific things in the singles chart. Fleetwood Mac along with some knob twiddling from the likes of Arthur Baker and Jellybean have also been constantly hitting the dancefloors, so as they are one of his favourite bands, Bizzie Bee presents his second mix for this month in the shape of the Fleetwood Mac Megamix. Brilliant tackle to attack your punters with! With summer well and truly underway (who says? - Ed), we thought a nice summery pop party mix was the order of the day from Mike Gray. After much deliberation, a suggested track listing was eventually whittled down to just seven summer favourites of the 1980's. Take your venue through the long hot summer with the Definitive one. Party! Party! Party! To complete the June '88 edition of DMC, Chad Jay decided he would molest (?) James Brown's new track, 'I'm Real". The first single from the forthcoming Full Force produced 33, now has a go go flavour and one or two extra inserts, such as the scratched up siren noise courtesy of Tom Brownes' 'Funkin' For Jamica' - stop and check it out my man, this is the music of a hip hop fan! Play 'em loud and proud!
