WHAT MIXMAG HAD TO SAY ABOUT THIS MONTH'S D.M.C. MIXES:
August's mixes once again prove that DMC producers are scaling new heights when it comes to originality and techniques. With the competition so intense to produce the star mix on the album, it seems that the quality of the mixes continues to improve month by month. Of course, the type of crowd to which you play will dictate which of the mixes you will find most usable, but I think it can safely be said that, in terms of sheer quality, this month's package has rarely been bettered. Starting things off this month we have a collaboration that seems destined to remain a permanent fixture on Christine's turntable over the next month - Sanny X meets Prince. Back in the early stages of his career, Alan Coulthard put together the first Prince Megamix, which included such gems as '1999', 'Little Red Corvette' and 'When Doves Cry'. Since then, the Purple One has become one of the true megastars in the world, and has established a style of his own which has often been imitated, but never bettered. Sanny X, himself an originator rather than an imitator, was our choice to tackle this momentous project, and I am sure you will agree that he has once again come up with the goods. There can scarcely be anything left to say about Steve Walsh that hasn't already been said elsewhere. Suffice to say that this is the DMC Producers tribute to Steve, a mix featuring his latest smash-bound release 'Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now' and the classic McFadden and Whitehead original. This mix also sees the debut of a new mixing partnership, Mike Gray and Bizzie Bee. With both on the case this mix will take some stoppin'! Rounding off Mixes One this month we have the monthly offering from our established double act The Mixbusters. Rhythm King have really struck gold by throwing in with us dee jays and promoting the sounds on the street. This exciting dance mix underlines the power of the dee-jay as artist, producer and mixer. Starting off Mixes two this month we have an offering from the third megastar on the albums this month, George Michael. George has come a long way since his 'Bad Boys' days, and this blend of four of his more subtle dance records should have no trouble in sustaining any dancefloor. Watch out particularly for a very smooth mix from 'Monkey' to 'Faith', where the bpm actually doubles albeit imperceptibly. Once again, Bizzie Bee has come up with a winner.
