WHAT MIXMAG HAD TO SAY ABOUT THIS MONTH'S D.M.C. MIXES:
Another killer selection of dancefloor ammunition which should serve to make your work a little more pleasureable and your life more inspired in November 88. Firstly, with an imminent blockbuster set of December, year-end best-of compilation mixes aimed your way, we thought we'd do well to retrack the Human League catalogue. 'Return To The League Of Humans' has received the master strokes of the great Dakeyne who we believe is about to be signed as a recording artiste to a major label! Good luck Paul, you have lots of admiring colleagues who'll be only too pleased to get your hits happin! Look out for all kindsa Dakeyne trickery in this mix but cream over the witchcraft he used to bring in 'Human' perfectly sung at a brand new beat - 117bpm(!). Mike Gray too has been venturing nearer and nearer to public releaseville with a production he's justly thrilled with although it has yet to find a home. Meanwhile his wicked party mixes have always got a home at DMC, 'It's Party Time' features a little set of sounds known to fill floors from Grimsby to Gothenberg! Chad Jackson came up with a very interesting idea to remix the brillo Pigbag hit. We couldn't imagine what he had in his mind coz he keeps that part of his anatomy under lock and key! The end product should cause quite a stir now that you've got a brand new big pag! We think Yazz has the type of image, talent and temperament to provide very lasting career ingredients and we wonder if she or her single, one of the years longest staying number 1's, will pick up any DMC awards. Certainly Alan Coulthard gets our applause for his double-disc marriage between two Yazz smashes. We've been hearing about the New Beat from Belgium for some time. It's really taken off over there and could be something to tempt people out of their accieed-bags. So we thought we'd ask Peter Slaghuis to string along some of the better New-Beats so that DMC's world membership could be first in the firing line. The Mixbusters have once again put their minds together this time to produce a monstrously good remix of Eric B and Rakim's machine gun rapper, "Put Your Hands Together". Jay and Steve don't just ride the rhythm, but in true Mixbuster style, they've also included around 20 drop-ins from EB & Rs back catalogue. Another guy who likes his cuts is Bizzie Bee. This months Full House is 4 1/2 minutes of samplification over an original Butler bass line. For his source material 'The Bee' has been dipping his diamond into the best of the current 'house' genre, but there's also some 'rare groove' gear in there, so see what you can spot. And that's it for this month. A month which, as usual, tries to pick out the developing new trends. A month which revisits and revitalises past glories. And a month which gives you, the DJ, a fresh injection into the tracks where your dancers have only just caught up. Till next month, don't forget - LET THE MUSIC BE THE DRUG."
