WHAT JAMES HAMILTON HAD TO SAY ABOUT THIS RELEASE:
Serious Records’ latest hot trax-filled ‘Upfront 3‘ compilation has serious competition in a similar double LP format from Champion’s brand new ‘Ultimate Trax‘ (CHAMP 103), not quite so upfront maybe but usefully including the (by chance?) just revived Kinkina ‘Jungle Fever‘ and a Battle Of The DJs in which DJ Cheese and Chad Jackson each have one whole side on which to mix the same records
SIDE C MIX: BATTLE OF THE D.J.'S Master Mix Medley
MIXED BY: D.J. Cheese (see below comments for a denial of this by Cheese himself)
LENGTH: 12:49
GENRE: House/Hip Hop
COMMENTS: In an interview on the D.J. Laz-E podcast in 2017, which you can listen to here (starting at the 6:45 mark), D.J. Cheese denied making this mix. As the mix is credited to him on the label I will keep it in his discography, but the D.J. that actually did the mix will probably never be known. The transcript of the interview is as follows...
INTERVIEWER: "We were talking before we started rolling off air about the D.J. Cheese Ultimate tracks. There was an album that came out, Ultimate Tracks Volume 1, and you were set up against, it was D.J. Cheese on one side, your mix, and on the other side it was the 1987 D.M.C. champion Chad Jackson. Can you elaborate on that at all?"
D.J. CHEESE: "Uh well, for anyone whoever purchased that record you can go and get your money back because that's not me D.J.'ing on that record."
INTERVIEWER: "You're joking."
D.J. CHEESE: "If you know how I D.J. and how good, if you listen to King Kut, we already spoke about how clean my scratches was on King Kut. If you compare the two, you would know that's not me on that record. There's not one single cut on that record from me. I don't know who that is."
INTERVIEWER: "Well I tell you what, they had the balls to go on and make a part two, because on the second one they pitched Jazzy Jeff against Whiz Kid. Did you ever hear that one?"
D.J. CHEESE: "Yeah, I heard that one. I don't know if it's either one of them on that record."
INTERVIEWER: "And so did you ever find out who imitated you?"
D.J. CHEESE: "I would love to know, but that's not me on that record."
